Phase V Strategic Planning and Transition

As we move towards the next phase of the FDP there is much work to be done in preparation. Almost 2 years ago a strategic planning team was established to first determine if the FDP should continue into a new phase and if so, what would be its stated purpose, objectives and goals. With a resounding Yes, the group decided that the FDP indeed had much more good that it could do and should continue into the next phase. With that decision behind them, the group worked to develop the strategic plan that the FDP would use as its basis for being. That plan was first presented to the membership at the January 2007 meeting to almost unanimous consent to move forward in the direction taken in the plan. The final plan was presented at the May 2007 meeting and was adopted by the membership.

Once the strategic planning was done, the strategic planning committee disbanded and a new committee took its place, the transition team. Currently this team is developing the solicitation to be published in the federal register. The timeline that they are working with is:

October 25 – Draft solicitation to Executive Committee

November 1 – Draft solicitation to OSTP and agencies

December 1 – Final draft solicitation to OSTP and agencies for clearance

February 1 – Publish solicitation in the Federal Register

March 20 – Applications due

April 1 – All applications reviewed

April 15 – All applicants notified

September 7-9 – Phase V kick off meeting, Amelia Island Florida

In addition to the work mentioned above, we will be holding elections for FDP chair and vice-chair over the summer as well. We hope to gather nominations by May 1 and have the nominees speak at the May meeting. We would hold the elections between the May and September meetings and have the new officers installed at the September meeting.
